• What is the Hair Transplantation Procedure?

The first procedure of the operation is the narcotisation of the hairy skin of the patient by applying the local anaesthesia. As a result of this procedure, the patient will remain awake during the operation or may watch TV, eat something, read gazette or book but never feel any pain.

The follicle to be transferred into the area without any hair can be obtained in two ways. The first of these two ways is to take a band from the nape of the neck that is the safe donor area. This band is separated into the follicles. The small hairy skin provided after the separation of the band is called graft. Each graft consists of one or more strands (follicle).

The skins around the space area where the band on the back side of the head is taken off are closed by suture. The closing of the space area of the band by a simple suture and the camouflage of the suture in a strip shape with the hair are the most important advantages of the hair transplantation operation.

The second way to obtain the follicle does not require to take band from the nape of the neck and suture. The follicle is taken as graft as ready from the back and side parts of the hairy skin or the other suitable parts (back, shoulders, breast, etc) with the devices developed for this produce. (This procedure may be called 'separate' in the community).

The graft is put on the cuttings (channels) opened with special tools in the hairless area. The properties of the tools used provide the dimensions of the channels opened as small as possible. This increases the density and the naturality and speeds the healing of the injury at the same time.

The properties of the tools make possible to open more channels in a determined area thus transplanted graft in smaller dimensions. The size of the channels and grafts is the most important factor that increases the density and naturality of the hair transplantation.

Another advantage of the smaller channel size is that the graft can put properly in the channel and the skin structure is hardly ever destroyed.

The big channel may cause to the cosmetic problems such as the cavitation on the sking surrounding it, colour change and sliding the grafts upward and downward. The channels should be opened in the original direction of the hair and the grafts transplanted should grow longer at the same time with the original hair because these are the most important points for the naturality of the hair transplantation.

The formation of the natural hair line is one of the most important points in a successive hair transplantation operation. The hair line should be symmetric and harmonic; it should be determined in proportion to the face shape of the person. In addition to these, it should also be lined in compliance with the hair loss type.

The determination of the hair line is due to the experience and aesthetic creativity of the doctor. It should be aimed to determine the ideal line as shape and position (localization) since the hair line will be stable for decades. The patients should remember that the hair line should seem natural in their declining years. The hair line should not be downward as the beginning of the youth years.

A higher hair line, that is more back line on both sides of forehead (temporal area), will provide a perfect result that lasts for all life. In this way; when it is compared to a lower and oval hair line, the more density and more natural appearance will be provided.

Nothing is put on the transplantation area after the operation. The bandage is closed on the suture if the hair transplantation is made by suture in order to protect the area from the outer effects. The bandage is removed after 12 hours at least and 72 hours at most. Any scar of the operation does not seem.

The patient may go to home immediately after the operation. The antibiotic tablet is taken for 5 days after the operation in order to prevent the infection risk. The hair transplantation area is covered with wound for a few days after the operation.

The wounds are removed when the hair is washed in the second day after the hair transplantation operation.

During this period, it is recommended that the patient should wear hat. The sutures are removed after 15 days if the hair transplantation is made with suture. The hair transplanted is lost in 2-4 weeks following the operation. The hair begins to grow as the follicles adopts to the new area (2,5 - 3 months are required for this process) and the hair grows longer approximately 1 cm per month. The hair transplantation has no side effects and complication that injures one's health in the future.
